Welcome to the 25th Alaska 10K Classic Road Race

This is one of the oldest active road races in Alaska. The ‘10K Classic’ has a rich racing history with participation by a number of famous runners. Don Clary holds the record time for this race, 28:35 set in 1987. In 1986, Alberto Salazar, who won the 1982 Boston Marathon and was on the 1980 Olympics team, came in second to Don in this race with a time of 29:26. In 1990 at the peak of its popularity, this race had nearly 1000 participants. Our long term goal is to get back to this level of participation.

The Alaska 10K Classic Road Race is a benefit for Special Olympics Alaska and is hosted by Peak Performers Track Club. All funds that this race is able to generate through sponsor donations and race entry fees, in excess of the cost of putting on this race, go to Special Olympics Alaska (SOA). This past year the race raised $10,000.00 for SOA, with about 460 entrants. In addition to the premier 10K race, there is also a 5K race. Both races will be chip-timed races.

Entry Fees and Registration
The race entry fee is $25, except $20 for active military and $15 per entrant for the Healthy Futures youth 5K. There is an additional fee of $5 for all late registrations.

Late 5K registrations will also be taken on race day at the finish line before 9:30 a.m. There is an additional fee of $5 for late registration.

Bib, Chip, and T-Shirt Pick-up

Bibs, chips, and shirts may be picked up on Thursday, August 5, 2010, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Skinny Raven Sports (800 H Street) and on race day from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Moseley Sports Center on the APU campus.

Chip Timing

After struggling over a number of years with bandits, resolving timing discrepancies and delayed timing results, the AK 10K Classic race committee decided to try chip timing in 2009. We will use chip timing again in 2010. Entrants will return their chips in the finishing chute after finishing their race. Anyone who registers and is issued a chip is responsible for returning that chip even if they do not race. If they do not return their chip, they will be charged $25. We're looking forward to an efficient and smooth timing program this year, and subsequent quickly listed and accurate times, plus awards within 30 to 60 minutes of finishing.

Parking--10 K

Limited parking is available near the start at Alaska Pacific University, with possible additional parking on the adjacent University of Alaska campus. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize traffic and parking congestion.
